All Skill Levels, Young Adults & AdultsThis workshop is for artists who are new to encaustic or have had some experience. Encaustic is a luminous medium that is made up of molten beeswax, pigment and dammar resin. Once an ancient process, it is now updated with new tools and equipment. The process produces impressive results with luminous and jewel- like surfaces and textures. We will explore melting and fusing, line and edge, working with paper, and texture. The participant will be supplied with a small piece of board (4x6”) for each technique on which to practice. The equipment, paint, medium, brushes and tools will be supplied

All Levels

Encaustic is a luminous medium that is made up of molten beeswax, pigment and resin. Techniques of melting and fusing the wax, making clean lines and edges, and methods of texture, and collage will be demonstrated and discussed. Encaustic is ideal for working abstractly or in a more representational style.  Small wooden panels (4x5”) for each of the techniques demonstrated will be provided. Bring  panels up to 9x12 inches for larger work. Equipment, paint, medium, brushes and tools are supplied

Encaustic is a once ancient, luminous medium that is made of molten beeswax, pigment and resin. It can be smooth & shiny and textured & three-dimensional all on the same painting; ideal for working abstractly or in a representational style. Explore melting and fusing, line and edge, collage and texture. A small piece of board (4x5") on which to practice each technique demonstrated will be provided. Bring additional wood panels up to 9x12". The equipment, paint, medium, brushes and tools will be provided. No encaustic experience necessary. For experienced students this is an opportunity to review processes, delve into an idea more deeply or try something new.

This series is a little longer than I usually teach in order for you to have more time to expand on your painting ideas.
