Encaustic painting is a process that produces impressive results with luminous and jewel-like surfaces and textures. Students will learn techniques such as melting through, line and edge, transfers, texture and collage where one will choose to practice these methods or just the ones that interest them. At the end of the workshop, artists will be familiar with a range of techniques which they can use as they develop their body of work. All supplies provided.

The layering process of encaustic painting produces impressive results with luminous surfaces and textures. During this workshop students work with transparent colors, imprinting and casting with botanical materials, stencils and texture. You will explore lines, dots and patterns with the stylus. Demonstrations are followed with time to improvise. Understanding the properties of encaustic is the first step to incorporating it into your own work. Participants will emerge with a range of skills to deepen the direction of their work and the confidence to create using the new abilities learned in class. Open to all skill levels.

Beginners as well as working artists are welcome! Demonstrations and experimentation allow students to learn techniques such as melting and fusing, line and edge, transfers, texture and collage. Students can choose to practice all of these methods or just the ones that interest them. Some paint, equipment, and small practice panels will be supplied.
