Layering encaustic (hot wax) color and patterns creates something new as the overlapping colors produce a new combination that unifies and energizes the work. Layering textured patterns and carving into them reveals the history of the making and adds to the richness of the experience and results. This workshop offers the opportunity to work with a variety of tools including an encaustic stylus, botanical materials, floral netting and transparent as well as opaque colors along with unique rubber stencils. The outcome will be unique for each person, as they explore and combine techniques in various ways. Students will emerge with a range of skills to deepen the content of their work and the confidence to create using new skills. Beginners and seasoned encaustic artists welcome. If students have worked with encaustic before, please bring pieces that you may want to continue to work on.
