Encaustic is an ancient, luminous medium that is made of molten beeswax, pigment, and resin. In the same painting, it can appear smooth, shiny, or textured as well as threedimensional. This makes it ideal for working abstractly or in a representational style. Explore melting and fusing, line and edge, collage and texture. For experienced students this is an opportunity to review processes, delve into an idea more deeply, or try something new. A small wooden panel for each of the techniques demonstrated will be provided. Bring additional wood panels up to 9” x 12". The equipment, paint, medium, brushes, and tools will be provided. No encaustic experience necessary.

This three-day workshop is for those who have had some experience with encaustic painting and who are interested in layering, texture and patterns to not only enrich the surface of their work but to build the structure within the painting. Along with creating patterns and texture demonstrations there will be transparent layering, inclusions and transfers. Combining these ways of working with your own individual voice is sure to enrich your work.
Lynda regards working in the studio as an exploration of ways to deepen and enrich her vision. Her process is intuitive. Being open to experimentation and discovery allows the environment and ideas to flow easily. This approach is very contagious in the workshops. Demonstrations are held periodically followed by periods of time to experiment. Participants may incorporate these methods into their own body of work. Texture and pattern not only enrich the surface of your work but can build the structure and complexity within the painting. Layering these patterns and textures creates another degree of complexity.
All materials are included.
